This is certainly unprecedented, a no fly zone over Europe.
But our clients will be pleased to know that this unfortunate problem does not affect the operations of The Datatec Group.

Our MD was due to travel to the USA today 19th April. But of course where he is in the world does make a difference.

But let us hope its over soon.

Google To End China Censorship

Google Inc. will stop censoring its search results in China and may pull out of the country completely after discovering that computer hackers had tricked human-rights activists into exposing their e-mail accounts to outsiders.
The change of heart announced Tuesday heralds a major shift for the Internet’s search leader, which has repeatedly said it will obey Chinese laws requiring some politically and socially sensitive issues to be blocked from search results available in other countries. The acquiescence had outraged free-speech advocates and even some shareholders, who argued Google’s cooperation with China violated the company’s “don’t be evil” motto.

The criticism had started to sway Google co-founder Sergey Brin, who openly expressed his misgivings about the company’s presence in China.

Underwater Thickness Guages

Cygnus Instruments introduces the new “Cygnus Underwater” thickness gauge. For over 25 years, Cygnus Instruments has been the leading manufacturer of reliable, rugged underwater thickness gauges for divers carrying out maintenance inspections and corrosion checks. Developed with the Cygnus pioneered Multiple Echo technique, all Cygnus gauges ignore surface coatings and give only true, accurate measurements. This technique ensures that successive returning echoes precisely match and are thus error‐checked before a measurement is displayed. As a result, inspection time and costs are significantly reduced.
The new Cygnus Underwater is IPX8 rated, which allows continuous underwater operation up to 300 m depth. The new feature of “Deep‐Coat” mode facilitates measuring through even thicker coatings up to 20 mm thick. Other features include convenient calibration buttons, echo strength indication and automatic probe recognition (APR), which detects the probe type and optimises the electronics accordingly. The gauge benefits from a large, bright LED display for use in poor visibility conditions. When surface verification is required the Cygnus Underwater can be upgraded to include the topside display options and any length of umbilical cable up to 1000 m long. This upgrade is straight forward ‐ simply plug in the topside repeater and go! The standard kit includes 2 rechargeable NiMH battery packs, which give over 60 hours’ measuring time and eliminate down‐time for battery charging.
With the benefit of all these features, the new Cygnus Underwater is not just the lightest (950 g) and smallest (235 x 75 mm) underwater gauge available, but also the easiest to use for all typical underwater inspections: ship hulls, semi‐sub structures, subsea pipelines, offshore structures, jackets, piers, pilings, etc.

Virgin Again

I wish. Well maybe not for me.
But seriously. We have had to invest in new hardware and a real person to compliment this new project. We should be content with actually having Virgin in our client stables (and eventually on our portfolio) but it must be getting round as we have had numerous enquiries from some big boys. But more about that when those eggs have hatched.

We have started the mockups of the site, working soley from our New York office, and their first reactions were very pleased !. So we are going in the right direction. We have to present complete page designs now so our creative guys have been let loose.

Still looking for design partners in NY who will work happily on joint ventures.

Business Training In This Climate

The Need for Export and Import Training

The weakening pound means that UK exports are becoming more competitively priced. In past economic downturns an increase in exports has compensated for declining home markets. As Credit Insurers reduce cover banks and traders are tending to fall back on traditional financial instruments such as letters of credit and other forms of documentary settlement.

Companies that have not previously been exposed to the risks of international trade may now find that they lack the necessary skills to address these challenges. Those companies that have previously exported may find that in house knowledge requires updating.

Traders must also take account of the increasing need to demonstrate compliance with customs regimes in order satisfy the demands of international security. To enable companies, and indeed the United Kingdom, to remain competitive in international trade there is a need to update skills through training. Business Training can provide export and import training solutions for international traders.
